FAQ
Why do your candles cost more than the big-name candle companies at the mall?
Theirs:
- Mass-produced
- Made with paraffin, a petroleum-based wax, cheapest in cost
- Basic glass jars
- Contain mystery fragrances. Under U.S. law, companies are allowed to include toxic chemicals in candles without disclosing them because they’re protected under a “proprietary” loophole. These companies don’t have much fragrance ingredient transparency on their websites and we noticed they also don’t claim ‘sulfate & phthalate free’
Ours:
- Hand-poured in small batches for optimal quality control
- Made with premium grade, clean burning, sustainable coconut wax
- High-end luxury vessels for superior aesthetic appeal and endless re-use options
- Fragrances are sulfate-free & phthalate-free which we proudly claim as non-toxic and pet friendly. We also take care in ensuring our fragrances don’t contain any of the pure essential oils that are said to be harmful to our fur babies
Are your candles safe for pets?
Absolutely! Essential oils are made from highly concentrated plant substances. While many of us enjoy the benefits of pure essential oils (calming, stress relief, etc.) some of these pure essential oils are said to have negative effects on our beloved fur babies. For that very reason, we made the decision NOT to use pure essential oils in our candles. Instead, we use fragrance oil blends that are safe for pets.
Do you offer cotton wick candles?
Not at this time, but that’s not to say we never will. We've done extensive testing on wooden wicks. You may think that all wicks are created equal but they’re not! Every new combination (new fragrance, new vessel, etc.) will burn differently. Without the correct fragrance load (percentage) and correct wood wick size, we could have a blow torch flame, a flame that barely stays lit, or a huge tunnel of wax that never reaches the vessel edges. Testing is a huge part of our business and after years of testing wooden wicks and a lot of trial and error, we're not quite ready for cotton wick testing just yet.
Why wood wicks?
We love the crackling sound and the comforting ambiance, as well as the slow burn and powerful scent throw they provide. We source our natural (untreated) wood wicks from Makesy (formerly The Wooden Wick Co) who holds the patent and for every $100 we spend on their wood wicks - they plant a tree! The wicks are sourced right here in the USA from FSC-Certified mills. FSC stands for ‘Forest Stewardship Council’ which is an independent non-profit organization that protects forests for future generations. They’re the gold standard in forest certification and the only organization supported by WWF and the National Wildlife Federation.

How do I care for my candle?
The most important step in caring for your candle is trimming your wick! We can't stress this enough. A well-maintained candle also reduces the risk of fires and accidents. Benefits of trimming your wick before each new burn include:
- Helps prevent large, unstable flames and excessive smoking
- Minimizes soot
- Ensures the candle will burn evenly, helping it last longer
- Maximizes fragrance distribution
We recommend investing in a wick trimmer and wick snuffer to aid in proper candle care. Checkout the Candle Care section of our website. If you don't have a wick trimmer, while not ideal - nail clippers will likely do the job. Just be sure to thoroughly clean the clippers before and after each trim. If neither are available, you can use a tissue to pinch the charred tip of your wood wick before each new burn.
**Say it with us - TRIM YOUR WICKS**
Every order will include a Candle Care Instruction Card that includes the following information:
- During initial burn, allow the melt pool to reach the edge of vessel to avoid tunneling. Usually 3-4 hours for our 12 oz LUXE candles.
- Avoid excessive burn time. No more than 4 hours at a time is recommended.
- Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable objects.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Avoid burning near drafts or open windows.
- Before each burn, trim off the charred section of the wick (trim wick to 1/8 " tall) to keep the wax clean and burning nicely.
- Never use the lid to extinguish the candle. We recommend using a wick snuffer.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Once candle has burned down, reuse it as a planter or decorative trinket jar.
While we test extensively to properly wick each candle/fragrance combo - wooden wicks are a natural (untreated) product so you might receive one in which the flame is a bit too high or the opposite - the flame just doesn’t want to stay lit. In either case, check to make sure the wick was properly trimmed and cleaned of char before it was lit. If it was indeed trimmed properly and it’s still happening - take a short video and reach out to us at CustomerCare@BelliniCandleCo.com.
How long do your candles burn?
Our coconut wax provides an extremely long burn rate and our candles average a 6-7 hour burn PER OUNCE of wax. Yes, you read that correctly - the long burn time is another great feature of our coconut wax! Burn times will vary depending on the fragrance and wick size but below is a general guide for our coconut wax candles:
- 12 oz LUXE Collection: Approx 72–80 hours
- 12 oz OPULENT Collection: Approx 72-80 hours
- 8 oz LUXE Collection: Approx 48–54 hours
- 7 oz POSH Collection: Approx 42-46 hours
